It is with heavy hearts that we post this offer to share our beloved Clay with a new family. Clay is a2 ½ year old full size Australian Shepherd weighing about 55 pounds. He has just had his yearly exam, shots and new heartworm/flee/tick meds supply. Clay loves his little ones, our three children ages 7, 5 and 4. He’s always watching out for them, loves for them to climb on him, brush his hair and feed him peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (without Mom’s permission!). He has been to a three-week board and train program and additional one on one private training sessions, loves his crate, knows his place, normal dog commands, is respectful to other dogs and people when out in the neighborhood, and goes to the park and on walks regularly with our family. As many Australian Shepherds are, he is very protective of his people when in his home territory, and because of the “chaos” in our home with three young children (one of which is hearing impaired with cochlear implants), we are unable to provide the consistent focus on him to correct this behavior. I operate an in-home business and have clients coming in regularly, and this behavior means that he must always be crated when outsiders come into our home. For the good of Clay, my family, and my business, we sadly feel he would be much better suited for a family with older children, a couple without children or a single person who can focus their attention on this behavior and correct it as this behavior is fixable through consistent training by the dog owner. He requires activity, as all Australian Shepherds do, whether his forever home is in a neighborhood or on a farm. He would LOVE to live on a farm or acreage where he can run and play more freely. Please reach out if you are interested. There will be a re-homing fee to be discussed privately. We feel strongly that this very hard decision is the best one for Clay, so please do not reach out with other suggestions.
