The Bengals are smart and want to please. From the time the babies are born into my hands, they are mine. I bathe, cut the cord, breathe life into them, and feed them. I sleep with their mother for the first several days to make sure none of them are struggling. If after that we have issues, I take them back to our bed at night so I can feed them every two hours around the clock. My husband is used to kittens in our bed and takes over feedings so I can sleep at times. Once the mother weans the rest we let them all into our bed and raise them on our baby-proofed main floor. The kitties have the rare opportunity to be housecats. We don't own cages and have a natural system of sorts that encourages babies to develop faster. The other queens in the house run free and help raise all the kittens in the house. The kittens get heavily mothered and get away with little. They are not fearful and crave people. If you are in any of the Bengal groups on Facebook you will see posts constantly from people complaining that their Bengals won't cuddle with them. Those aren't my cats. Mine will chase you down to cuddle you. They don't need two weeks to settle in your home in a small room either, I ask that you give them 2 hours. The constant interaction that they have experienced both with the Leopard and with children makes them very brave. Not much bothers them. I keep the kittens with me from 12-16 weeks depending on their maturity and growth. Some kittens love the outdoors and thrive on a harness others are adept at knowing their personal comfort needs and wanting to be with them if they are in pain or need to be cuddled.
