Recently Adopted Blanc de Hotot Rabbits Near Texas
Heritage breed rabbits for sale
Blue Binky Bunny is a small rabbitry in Austin, Texas. We ethically raise rare Blanc de Hotot rabbits, which were originally imported from France. They have suffered from dwindling numbers. We love this breed and chose it to help promote conservation efforts of its breed and educate on their threatened species but also because of their intelligence, active temperament, their beautiful fur, and signature eyes. We are a registered Rabbitry of the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), a members of the Livestock Conservancy, and Williamson County 4H. Blanc de Hotot are known for their striking, thin black bands circling the eyes contrasted by a lustrous white coat that gives them an eye-catching look. The breed was created by Eugenie Bernhard, the second woman ever to be credited with developing a rabbit breed. She spent years keeping a large rabbitry of Flemish Giants and Checkered Giants, which she used as part of her slow development of the Blanc de Hotot. While the breed became established in its home country of France, Blanc de Hotots began to be brought to America during the 1920s. They soon died out, though. They later saw a reintroduction in the states by breeders like Bob Whitman of Texas, who imported 8 Blanc de Hotots from France in 1978. Because of the very small gene pool and a body type that greatly needed improvement at the time, breeders began to cross the rabbit with Blue-Eyed White Beverens, White New Zealands, and White Satins. It wasn't until 2004 that additional Blanc de Hotots were imported to the U.S. from Germany, Holland, and England. The Blanc de Hotot is a large rabbit with bucks weighing 8 to 10 pounds. They are an active, hardy breed and are easily raised in free-roam homes as pets and in wire cages. They're good pets and also good mothers with good-size litters. We currently have two male pedigreed Blanc de Hotot babies open for reservation now. DOB 2/28/xxx2 $300/each. Serious inquiries only. View Detail
