The African spurred tortoise also called Sulcata is a desert tortoise that inhabits the Sahara desert, in Africa. They are the third largest species in the world!!
**KEEP in Mind if you have Sulcatas/ Tortoises/ Turtles/ that you are not able to Care for We Will Take them In** .
Sulcata tortoises are herbivorous. Their diet consists of grass and plants. They love cactus, aloe vera, hibiscus flowers, and leafy greens, high in fiber and very low in protein. Feeding of fruit should be considered a treat or avoided.
When kept indoors it is good to soak them in a shallow water bath to their chin for 15 minutes once a week.
Growing tortoises need direct access to UV lighting to properly grow and develop. Be sure to purchase lighting specifically for reptiles, they need direct lighting and some sort to be able to escape the heat should they get to warm.
There should be a cage temp gradient during the day of approximately 85-95F and nighttime temperatures should remain above 70F.Sulcata tortoises make phenomenal pets! They seemingly become quite bonded with their owners and with the proper care you will have a friendship that will most likely last longer than your lifetime.
